~ Hubbardton Battlefield '05 ~

Hubbardton Battlefield was the site of the only battle of the Revolutionary War that actually took place on Vermont Soil. The other well-know Vermont battle is the Battle of Bennington, which actually took place just outside the Vermont borders in New York.

The Battle of Hubbardton was a successful rear-guard action that delayed the British and Hessian force and caused them to return to Mt. Independance and Fort Ticonderoga to regroup and re-supply. This delaying action allowed the main body of Colonial troops under the command of General Aurthur St. Clair to escape south and eventually join up with General Philip Schuyler's army near Saratoga, where they would totally defeat General Burgoyne's entire army three months later.
