Mt. Independance is located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, directly across from Fort Ticonderoga. It was the path of escape for the Colonial Army out of Fort Ticonderoga early in 1777 and was recaptured from the British after General Burgoyne was defeated at Saratoga. |
